Spring Concerts Unveiled for Wolverhampton’s Folk Music Fans

This spring, Newhampton Arts Centre is poised to become a vibrant hub for folk music enthusiasts. The centre will host a series of concerts, showcasing a rich tapestry of melodies, narratives, and traditions with a lineup of celebrated artists.

Kicking off the season in March is John Kirkpatrick – a towering figure in the English folk scene. Currently touring with his brand new CD that’s taking the world by storm, Kirkpatrick is known for his virtuosity on the melodeon, Anglo concertina, and button accordion. His contributions to English folk music have earned him the English Folk Dance and Song Society’s Gold Badge in 2003. Critics have hailed his latest CD, ‘Coat-Tails Flying’, with glowing reviews, praising it as a definitive signature solo album. Kirkpatrick’s live performances are a must-see, offering an exhilarating and magical experience.

In April, Will Page takes the stage. Known as the fiddle-playing frontman of the Americana band Noble Jacks, Page is a multi-talented singer-songwriter and instrumentalist from Sussex. Having toured extensively, including sold-out shows across the UK and notable festival performances, Page has launched a successful solo career. His debut single, “Strength To Carry On”, has garnered support from regional and global radio stations, marking him as a rising star in the folk and Americana scenes.

May brings the duo of Hannah Sanders & Ben Savage. Defying conventions of style and genre, they blend Americana with quintessentially English folk. Their albums, ‘Before the Sun’ (2016) and ‘Awake’ (2018), showcase their innovative and groundbreaking style. With their new album, ‘Ink of the Rosy Morning’, released on Topic Records in early 2022, they continue to captivate audiences with their distinctive and unique sound.

Rounding off the season in June is ‘Wakefire: A Midsummer Celebration’ featuring Lady Maisery and Jimmy Aldridge & Sid Goldsmith. This new show is an enchanting tribute to summertime, filled with folk songs, morris dancing, and captivating narratives. Lady Maisery, known for their exquisite vocal harmonies, and the musical partnership of Aldridge and Goldsmith, renowned for their vocals and social conscience, promise a mesmerising performance.
