Same Difference Festival returns to West Park with immersive Colourscape experience, aerial circus and a celebration of young people’s creativity

Families, young people and communities from across Wolverhampton are invited to enjoy a FREE day of creativity, performance and participation as Same Difference Festival returns to West Park on Saturday 1 August (11am–6pm).

Delivered as part of Wolverhampton City of Youth Culture, Same Difference has become one of the city’s flagship celebrations of inclusion, creativity and belonging. The FREE festival brings together artists, performers, community organisations and young people to create a vibrant event where everyone is welcomed, valued and encouraged to take part.

A headline attraction this year is Colourscape , the internationally acclaimed inflatable walk-in sculpture that transforms colour, light and music into a unique immersive experience. Visitors will journey through a spectacular labyrinth of colour while enjoying specially commissioned live performances from touring musicians. The festival will also welcome special guests Sky Pixies, whose breathtaking aerial circus performances promise to delight audiences throughout the day.

Alongside these spectacular experiences, visitors can enjoy live music, dance, interactive performances, hands-on creative workshops, wellbeing activities and the chance to meet many of Wolverhampton’s cultural organisations and community groups. Designed with accessibility and participation at its heart, the festival celebrates difference as a strength, ensuring people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities can experience the city’s cultural offer together.

Led by Wolverhampton Cultural Education Partnership (CEP), the festival showcases the power of creativity to build confidence, remove barriers and create meaningful opportunities for young people to engage with arts and culture.

What makes Same Difference unique is that it is youth-led. The festival has been shaped, programmed and delivered by young people from youth groups across the Wolverhampton Cultural Education Partnership, giving them the opportunity to develop leadership skills, influence cultural activity and create a festival that genuinely reflects the voices and experiences of young people in Wolverhampton.

The festival is a key event within the three-year Wolverhampton City of Youth Culture programme funded by Arts Council England’s Place Partnership Fund. Through partnerships with artists, schools, community organisations and cultural institutions, the programme is helping more young people discover creative opportunities, develop new skills and see themselves reflected in the cultural life of their city.

Bringing internationally recognised experiences such as Colourscape alongside the incredible creativity of our local artists, partners and young people makes this year’s festival especially exciting.”
