Our Story

Wolverhampton City of Youth Culture brought young people, artists, schools and cultural organisations together to reimagine what creativity could look like across the city.It created new opportunities for young people to express themselves, develop skills, influence decisions and play an active role in Wolverhampton’s cultural life.

Young People Led the Way

Young people were not simply invited to attend. They shared ideas, helped shape activity and influenced how the programme developed.They created artwork, performed on major stages, researched the programme, developed events and helped design experiences for their communities.Their voices, creativity and experiences were central to the story from the beginning.

A Whole Creative City Came Together

Cultural organisations, artists, schools and community partners worked together to create opportunities on a scale that would not have been possible alone.By sharing knowledge, resources and expertise, the partnership opened doors into music, theatre, visual art, digital creativity, research and cultural leadership.The programme connected people across Wolverhampton and showed the strength of working together around a shared ambition.

Creativity Took Over Wolverhampton

Activity reached theatres, schools, parks, streets and community spaces across the city.Young people performed at The Halls, created public artworks, explored creative careers, developed new skills and helped bring inclusive festivals and cultural experiences to life.Wolverhampton became a place where creativity could be seen, heard and experienced in new ways.

More Than a Programme

The programme created more than events, workshops and performances.It helped young people build confidence, discover new strengths, develop friendships and imagine possibilities they may not have considered before.It also strengthened relationships between young people and the organisations shaping Wolverhampton’s cultural future.

A Lasting Legacy

The performances may have ended and the workshops may have finished, but the impact continues.Public artworks remain across the city. Skills and relationships have grown. Young voices have influenced future plans and created a stronger foundation for youth-led cultural activity.Wolverhampton City of Youth Culture demonstrated what can happen when young people are trusted to contribute, create and lead.

This was not simply a year of activity.

It was a new way of working.

Young people helped shape ideas, influence decisions and bring creativity into streets, stages and public spaces across Wolverhampton.
