If you’re looking for a new music experience, why not try out Folk at the NAC? For years, Newhampton Arts Centre in Wolverhampton has hosted some of the best contemporary folk artists from around the UK, showcasing a diverse range of talent that includes artists like Martin Simpson, Faustus, Lady Maisery, Calan, Martin Carthy, and Bella Hardy. And this season is no different, as Folk at the NAC opens with Vera van Heeringen, an incredibly talented songwriter and instrumentalist.

Van Heeringen’s original contemporary Folk/Americana music draws on both traditional and transatlantic influences. Her performances are powerful, with exceptional instrumental virtuosity, poignant songwriting, and heartwarming lyrics. And she’ll be performing live with a watertight acoustic trio featuring Andy Seward on double bass and Dave Luke on guitar, vocals, and mandolin. The show is intimate and potent, making it a must-see for folk enthusiasts.

But that’s not all. In May, we’ll see the return of Yorkshire folk singer Jack Rutter, whose soaring vocals, powerhouse guitar, and bouzouki playing, and masterful arrangements of traditional songs and contemporary covers have enthralled audiences from the largest festival main stages to the most intimate folk clubs. His critically acclaimed second album “Gold of Scar & Shale” was followed by the release of a brand new EP in 2022, and he’s currently working on a new album of traditional songs set to be released in 2023. You can have a listen to some of his music here.

And if you’re still not convinced, how about Lady Maisery? The BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominated trio of Hannah James, Hazel Askew, and Rowan Rheingans return to the New Horizons Stage to celebrate over 10 years of innovation at the forefront of the English folk scene. Their unique approach to harmony singing and intelligent arrangements of both traditional and original compositions are sure to delight and inspire.
