As we continue our New Producers 2025 spotlight series, we’re shining a light on the brilliant creatives who are learning about the joys and challenges of arts producing being delivered with China Plate Theatre.
Today, meet Krystyna Curtis, bringing bold energy and a deep-rooted love for live performance to the programme.
A first gig to remember
“My first gig was Ash, at The Wulfurn Hall when I was 15. I’ve been hooked on live events since!”
A magical moment in the Lakes
“My most memorable live event is probably attending a small festival in The Lake District, at Fell Foot Wood. It was situated in a beautiful Silver Birch/Bluebell woodland on the shores of Lake Windermere, with a hand picked/bespoke lineup, including niche artistes such as ex members of Can & Queen Adreena. We camped under the stars; what the organiser refers to as The Pancosmodrome, and could feel the ancient natural energy of the place. It felt like an incredible rite of passage.”
Why Krystyna applied for New Producers
“I feel as though I’ve always done well at organising my own events, and thrive collating ideas with a flourish of creativity. I would like to help the Arts to once again exist in abundance, post lockdown, but especially in The West Midlands/Wolverhampton, as they once did 25 years ago. I am also the vocalist in my own band and create my own headdresses etc for performance, and seek to extend this alongside my Visual Arts background, expanding into the Arts locally and internationally.”
Gaining insight, confidence, and connections
“The course is filling in all the gaps in my knowledge of Producing, in a more professional sense. I have loved meeting so many different speakers (and cohort members), each with their own insider experiences of producing, often alongside their constantly evolving Creative Practice. They have helped me feel as though I have a foot in the door now.”
What Krystyna loves about the Black Country
“The people, the nature, the boundless creativity.”
Looking ahead: A festival rooted in connection
“I would love to host a mini music/arts/wellbeing festival in The Midlands, with my own bespoke lineup utilising the music and art contacts I’ve made over the years. I believe humans need nature and connection through music and art, and I would love to make this happen, especially in or near Wolverhampton.”
A fun fact for the road…
“I have met and hung out with many bands and artists throughout the last 30 years, including some acts which are now humungous. Also, I met comedian Stewart Lee this week! ❤️🔥”
