Macy Wright – Café Spotlight

Royal Birmingham Conservatoire bass starlet Macy Wright leads an exciting new project in our cosy café setting as we continue to showcase the brightest jazzers of the new generation.

The ace Derbyshire instrumentalist and composer, seen at Cheltenham Jazz Festival’s collaboration project on the Parabola Arts Centre stage last year with students from Siena and Hamburg as well as her Brum Conservatoire peers, is promising fresh material for this showcase performance.

This flexible, questing musician has worked with the Conservatoire’s Mingus Big Band, and with the standards outfit The Red Velvet Ensemble (with fellow students/graduates Christian Kiely-Charalambous, Grace Conner and Ollie Canham).

Macy will hand-pick a band for this very special gig. Her current musical inspirations include iconoclastic Grammy-winning bassist Esperanza Spalding, German pianist Lukas DeRungs, experimental Belgian jazzer Nala Sinephro, and US vibraphonist Joel Ross – so expect something utterly intriguing and wonderful!
