This exciting new pilot programme offers young people aged 11–16 the opportunity to explore art in a supportive, inspiring environment. Over four weekly evening sessions, participants will experiment with drawing, painting, and mixed media while learning how artists develop ideas and express identity through visual language.
The course introduces a wide range of art styles — from prehistoric to contemporary art right through to anime. The workshops encourage participants to find what resonates with them personally. Rather than focusing on fine art or technical perfection, the programme prioritises creativity, confidence, and self-expression.
Each participant will receive a sketchbook, access to a wide range of materials, and the chance to create a final artwork on canvas. The programme also invites young people to shape the future of the course by sharing their ideas and feedback.
This pilot aims to establish an ongoing, affordable visual arts youth programme at Wolverhampton Arts Centre, supporting creative pathways for young people while introducing participants to a wide range of art styles and ways of thinking like an artist.
